There's always a beginning

Here we go... Definitely NOT my first attempt at losing weight and getting healthy, but it IS my first attempt to blog about it for the whole world to see!! Well, maybe not the whole world, but my close friends. I think it's more embarrassing for close friends to read this then it would be for the whole world, but that is why I am doing this. I NEED HELP!! I need help from everyone I know and trust, as well of help from myself.
I'm not exactly sure how I am planning on tackling this weight loss attempt, but it's not going to be anything fancy. I think I am going to stick with counting those good ole' calories. But what's healthy?? How do I know how many calories I need to take in every day, and how many calories I need to burn in order to lose "slow and steady?"
Well, until I do my research and figure that out I am going to start out this week with a pretty simple task. I will give up the soda and switch to only water(except for some milk, of course). Once I am drinking my 8 glasses of water a day, I will add another "healthy task" to the mix.
I really want this to be it for me!!

  1. This is an awesome idea and a great starting point. I've been on and off serious about weight loss for the past 1 1/2 years now and it is definitley a struggle. Setting goals is a great first step. I've been working with a trainer through this time too which has helped me build up great strength and energy that I never thought I would have. You can find her blog at jakesgettinjiggywithit.blogspot.com

If you go to that blog, you will find lots of other great information on goal setting and exercise plans. What I do is CrossFit workout 2-3 days a week. When I first started with her I was too embarrassed to let her take my picture or take any measurements and now I totally regret that. I'm wishing I had the true before and after photos, (well, it's not really ever "after" since it's more of a lifestyle change for me than anything.) Anyhow, enough of my rambling, I am happy to share any information you think would help. If there are specific questions or you would be interested in talking to my trainer (who is awesome by the way) let me know. 4 months after starting CrossFit workouts, I ran a 5K and it felt amazing!!!! If I can do it, anyone can!

  2. Well... I'm so glad you shared! 'Cause I feel the same way!

I did lose about 40 lbs. on Weight Watchers a few years ago - AND - since then, I gained it all back! I know Weight Watchers works, so why not do it? I've been trying to lose weight my whole life, do I want to stay on Weight Watchers my whole life? That's what would happen. I'd have to be committed to it every single moment to lose weight and keep it off.

There has to be a better way, and cutting out things does seem to work. I was bad at having some sort of snack a couple hours after dinner. For the past month after dinner, when I felt like I had to have something to eat, I would just drink a soda (diet), it keeps me (and my stomach and tastebuds) occupied. I have lost 3 lbs. and hopefully I will not see them back again. Now that I have somewhat conquered that mountain, I have to see what my next challenge should be - maybe I will have to work on water for my next "task" instead of diet soda, cause I heard it's not so good for you either.

Keep up the good work Nicki, I think you have the right idea and we can all keep each other inspired. Thanks again for sharing!
